Every Year Matters is a non-profit whose focus is to provide a birthday cake to anyone who needs one on their birthday. We believe that each and every person is worthy of this simple and iconic celebration staple, which cuts across different cultures and time periods.

But some people don't have the means to capability to purchase simple ingredients, or they don't prioritize themselves, or they may not be in a position to prepare a cake, or have no one to celebrate with. We're here to celebrate you! You matter! Your birthday matters!

We started this process as an answer to changes in United States SNAP benefits. Outlining that in 2026 there would be states that attempt to curtail the ability of recipients to purchase things like pre-mixed cakes, or cupcakes for children. Politicians or social media commenters will bemoan food benefits being used for 'non-essential' food purchases, and see something as simple as a birthday cake as offensive. F*ck that.
